On May 15, 2021, Latin American Alliance hosted an event to honor special mothers from our community: a gala dinner at the Eden Resort & Suites, sponsored by Metro by T-Mobile. During this year of COVID-19, mothers went above and beyond to care for their families, neighbors, and friends. All Latin American countries celebrate mothers, and the majority of them celebrate Mother’s Day in May as we do in the United States. The hosts of the ceremony, Jaime Zabala and Diana Escalante, began the ceremony by acknowledging all of the dates of the various Mother’s Day celebrations throughout the hemisphere. Nuestra Señorita Hispanidad Nelián Cruz also helped with hosting duties by handing out roses to the mothers and raffle prizes to the lucky winners.
Throughout the evening mothers had the opportunity to win one of several raffle prizes donated by Chilango’s Mexican Restaurant, the Hershey Company, Jannat Beauty Design, and Mrs.Luz María de Guerrero.
During the dinner, guests were treated to musical performances by the Cherrywood String Quartet and Rammiro de Colombia, and also enjoyed entertainment by DJ Jobany Bedoya from Red Tie Affairs.
This event was designed to enhance our mission of promoting the Latin American Cultural Heritage by sharing in the celebration of mothers, a cultural practice, and by encouraging the use of the Spanish language in writing nominations of heroine mothers. During the ceremony, the hosts read the thoughtful words that the participants had written about their mothers.
